Each sport requires a different kind of sunglasses lens colour, though some will cross-over. Read below to find the tint that works best with your sport:

  • Running & cycling - Smoke and clear tints and Iris™ Photochromic lenses.

  • Golf, padel, tennis and other racket sports - Brown and rose tints boost contrast.

  • Water & Snow - Blue or green lenses cut glare hardest.

Running

Smoke, or photochromic Iris™. A slightly darker than clear tint is ideal for brighter conditions outside. If you are covering long distances, the adaptability of Iris™ lenses means you can press forward km by km without a worry to stop and change your eyewear.

Road or Gravel Cycling

Smoke & polarised. Really when out and about smoke simply provide a nice dimmer view of conditions ahead, but really any colour lens will work based on what you want out and about.

Polarised vs. non-polarised?

It's an age old question in eyewear circles. Polarised lenses contain a micro-filter that blocks horizontal light, which is often the type of glare bounced off flat surfaces like water, roads, and pavements. This glare reduction makes polarised the best option for regular wear, and for specific sports. The glare reduction will reduces eye strain, sharpens contrast and makes some colours more vivid.

But there are cases where polarised is not the way to go:

Cycling: the glare reduction that polarised lenses provide also remove some key visual cues that cyclists rely on. Wet patches or sheen on uneven road surface ahead may only be readable by the shine and effect it gives off, this can be stripped out by a polarised lens. In general textures and depth can be flattened by a polarised lens. And some cycling computer screens will not work with a polarised lens.

Golf: Green-reading plays a key part of golf. Polarisation can often dramatically flatten this, making reading mounds and divots on the green much harder. Some golfers do still elect for polarised lenses due to the glare reduction but that becomes largely personal choice and many will take off their polarised sunglasses when on the green.

Snow: polarised lenses can make it hard to read the texture of the snow in front of you, making it hard to judge how to approach the path ahead, because of this most ski and snowboarding goggles out there use non-polarised lenses, and we recommend that even when wearing sunglasses on the snow for walking or ski touring to opt for non-polarised lenses.
